We're excited to announce our open days for spring 2025 when Stody’s magnificent rhododendron gardens will next be in flower:

Sunday 18th May: Classic Vehicles at Stody Gardens 11.30 am - 5 pm (Classics from 9.30 am)

Need a last minute Mother’s Day present? We have the solution! Give your lovely Mum a visit on any one of our open days this spring with a Stody Lodge Gardens voucher. Link in bio. Our first open day is Sunday 27 April (carpets of #daffodils, hundreds of #azaleas and some early #Rhodies 🤩) then we’re next open on Sunday 4 (our brilliant Family Fun Day), then every Weds - Friday and Sunday in May, all 1pm - 5pm. Sunday 11 is our Bishop & Miller Valuation Day (our own version of the Antiques Roadshow - bring your trinkets for free valuation 🎖️💍) Sunday 18 is our v popular Classic Vehicles at Stody Gardens 🚘. Our final open day is Bank Holiday 26 May. It’s confusing, we know! We are just trying to get as many open days in as poss so you can all enjoy the multitudes of flowers before they go over in June 😔. Every year I get caught out by this absolute stunner of a camellia sasanqua. This year I was determined to catch it opening, but once again I managed to miss the progression of buds getting larger and larger, the first unfurling of petals etc… not sure it matters really, I get just as much of a thrill seeing it in full flow like this, tucked around a corner against a traditional Norfolk flint wall. My eye receptors aren’t quite used to so much magnificent pink after the dirgey colours of winter. Such a treat against another beautiful blue sky. I had to immediately pick a posy for a lovely kind friend (you know who you are!) #hellospring #norfolkgardens #opengardens #camellia #friends

Crocuses under the mulberry tree are almost glowing in the evening sunlight today. So magical. Molehills less magical - has anyone else found the moles to be particularly bad this year or is it just us?! Think it’s the relatively mild winter and softer ground as they’ve had a field day (pun intended) in our lawn. #norfolkgarden #opengarden #moles #mulberry #crocus

Spring is here! What a day… the birds are tweeting, the camellias are flowering, and our magnolias are budding up beautifully. All with blue skies and sunshine 🤩. The eagle-eyed amongst you will see we’ve done a lot of work to the lawn - we aerated it two weeks ago, then it’s just been scarified (not an attractive process but essential for lawn health as it removes moss and dead organic matter. It also has two other benefits - the engine noise is an excellent mole deterrent and it allows birds to get to our dreaded chafer grubs more easily!) The next step is a feed and it will be back to glorious bright glossy green for our first open day on Sunday 27 April #spring #opengarden #norfolkgarden #magnolias #camellia #lawncare

Happy Valentines’ Day everyone - some lovely pink buds opening just in time here at Stody. This is #rhododendron ‘Christmas Cheer’ (strangely named as in our garden it’s never out in time for Christmas, but always just in time for Valentine’s) and Camellia × williamsii ‘Señorita’. Hope you’ve all had a message of love from someone, if not - here’s one from us to you! 🥰. #valentinesday #pink #love #flowers

Like many of you, we’re seed planting at the moment. The #sweetpeas and #cosmos are in and today we tackled #delphiniums (both Mr Fothergill’s and our own supply collected from last year’s plants - free plants - immensely satisfying!) I was on the verge of watering these in but thankfully Head Gardener, Richard Brightwell, stopped my hand ✋ as a frost due again tonight and frozen soil does NOT bode well for germinating seeds. So another lesson learnt in the ever-growing depths of plant knowledge and care. Lovely to imagine the beautiful blue spires of delphiniums wafting in the breeze this summer #longsummerdays #herbaceousborder #seedplanting
