Water & Minerals
The Estate identified a need to secure its water resource, essential for the production of its crops, whilst at the same time significantly reduce the environmental impact of its summer irrigation. Planning permission was secured to excavate an area next to the main farmyard in order to create two reservoirs. The reservoirs will extract and store water from the Estate's existing licences during the high water levels in winter and thereby significantly reduce the Estate's water extraction requirements during the drier summer months.
The two reservoirs, and accompanying upgrade of the Estate's irrigation system, will be part-funded by the extraction and sale of sand and gravel. The removal and distribution of these materials is being undertaken by the reputable and local firm, Frimstone Ltd.
Frimstone and Stody Estate will continue to hold regular community liaison meetings throughout this project.
